A patient with sick sinus syndrome, atrial flutter and bidirectional ventricular tachycardia: Coincident or concomitant presentations?

چکیده
Channelopathies are among the major causes of syncope or sudden cardiac death in patients with structurally normal hearts. In these patients, the atrium, ventricle or both could be affected and reveal different presentations. In this case, we present a patient with an apparently structurally normal heart and recurrent syncope, presented as sick sinus syndrome with atrial flutter and bidirectional ventricular tachycardia. (Cardiol J 2007; 14: 585-588).

Sick sinus syndrome in childhood.
The clinical and electrocardiographic findings in five children with the sick sinus syndrome and an otherwise normal heart are described. There were three boys and two girls. Their age at onset of either bradycardia or symptoms ranged from 1 day to 7 years. In one patient, the youngest ever reported with this syndrome, bradycardia was noted before birth. Four children presented with neurologica...

متن کاملA Case Report of Neonatal Atrial Flutter with Poor Feeding and Tachypnea
Background: Arrhythmias in neonates are not common and usually affect newborns with a normal heart or those that suffer from structural heart disease. A malignant type of arrhythmias is supraventricular tachycardia. Meanwhile, one uncommon type of supraventricular arrhythmias is atrial flutter (AFL), which is founded upon reentry mechanisms in the atrium. The AFL may result in heart failure or ...
متن کامل[The use of auto mode switching in patients with sick sinus syndrome].
BACKGROUND At present the dual chamber pacing, originally developed for patients with AV blockades, is widely used also for patients with Sick sinus syndrome (tachycardic-bradycardic type). But these patients often cause therapeutical problems to their physicians. In these cases either antiarrhythmic therapy is necessary to prevent recurrent supraventricular tachycardias (which are cause of rap...
متن کاملBeneficial effect of intravenous diltiazem in the acute management of paroxysmal supraventricular tachyarrhythmias.
We tested the effectiveness and safety of i.v. diltiazem in the management of paroxysmal supraventricular tachyarrhythmias in 39 patients, 21 with organic heart disease and seven in heart failure. Fifteen patients presented with supraventricular tachycardia, 12 with atrial fibrillation and 12 with atrial flutter. End points were conversion to sinus rhythm or slowing of the ventricular rate to 1...
